Clarification of service limits and evaluation methods
The calculations follow European building standards, in particular ÖNORM B 8115-3 for reverberation time and ISO 3382-2 for measurement surveys in rooms. Deviations between simulated and measured values are possible, as the models are based on idealized boundary conditions. For acceptance, we recommend an additional on-site measurement after completion.
For the sound simulation, we need the room geometry as a 3D model, information on surface materials, as well as the planned seating and technical equipment. If this information is missing, we work with conservative assumptions that are marked in the report. A later adjustment of the material parameters is possible, provided the basic geometry remains unchanged.
The simulated values serve as a planning basis and do not replace a building physics acceptance. Tolerances of ±0.1 seconds relative to the target value are considered usual, as real building components and installations influence the result. For critical projects, such as auditoriums or recording rooms, we recommend a two-stage validation: simulation in the design phase and measurement after completion.
The scope of services includes the creation of the simulation model, the calculation of sound propagation and reverberation time, as well as a results report with recommendations for action. Not included are the structural implementation, material deliveries and official submissions. These services can be coordinated on request through our partner offices.
If it becomes apparent during the construction phase that materials or room dimensions deviate from the planning, we check the impact on the acoustics and adjust the model. The costs for such a re-simulation are shown separately and are not included in the basic fee. We recommend reporting changes at an early stage to avoid costly corrections.
Yes, the simulation models can be transferred to existing buildings, provided the existing building fabric is documented. For unknown materials, we first carry out a brief inspection and supplement missing parameters. The accuracy of the forecast depends more heavily on the quality of the existing data than for new buildings.
